Healthy Eating

Summer is ending and the variety of fruits and vegetables in the grocery store will shrink, so take advantage of this opportunity to get yourself into a good habit of eating healthy before your options are whittled down. In this week’s Cypress River Blog, we’ve got a few ways that you can get into the habit of eating well.

Cook at Home

Although it’s easier to get in your car and go through a drive-through for your meal, the food you’ll find there is far from healthy. Fast food restaurants generally cut corners and use ingredients and methods that streamline the processes to make it more efficient in making money. Cooking at home allows you to pick the ingredients that will be used. Enjoy cutting back on the unhealthier methods of cooking and end your night with the satisfaction that you made something delicious inside your apartment.

Find Recipes You Enjoy

Healthy eating has long been associated with bland and tasteless food, but there are plenty of recipes floating around the internet that are both healthy and delicious. Finding the right recipe for your tastes can make a tremendous difference in how you view eating. Experiment and try different recipes. Keep the ones you really enjoyed and set aside the ones that didn’t meet your expectations. By the end of a few months, you’ll have a collection of recipes you enjoy that you can cycle through!

Slow Down

Scarfing down food is not the best way to eat. Slow down. Take the time to savor your food and talk to the people you’re having a meal with. Your brain takes a while to process that your body has eaten it’s fair share of food, so taking your time allows your body to recognize that you’re full.
