Tips for De-Stressing

It’s the beginning of a new year, which is a good time to take stock of life — but that can sometimes lead to feeling stress, so we’re sharing some ideas about how to deal with the stressors in your life by treating and remembering to take care of yourself. This week’s Cypress River Blog has some tips and ideas for things you can do to de-stress, this month and any other time this year!

Stay on top of your responsibilities. A big way to deal with stress is to first ensure you’re not neglecting any duties that may be on your mind. Confront the tasks in your day, but approach it in simple terms so you don’t feel overwhelmed. You can look at them as baby steps, or as small, manageable acts you can accomplish without exerting too much effort. Creating a to-do list or writing out a schedule and giving yourself a timeline for when things should be done by is a good place to start and to help you feel in control of your life.

Take care of your body. As you’re making your schedule and allocating your time to certain activities, leave room for taking care of yourself. Prioritize exercise, sleep, and eating and resting times so you can focus on giving your body the fuel it needs. This will help you feel better able to confront challenges when they come!

Meditate. Paying attention to your mental and emotional health can also help with how you feel physically and professionally. So set aside time, before bed, at the start of your day, or when you need a break any other time of the day, to meditate. As Harvard Health Publications explains about meditation, “this practice of inward-focused thought and deep breathing has been shown to reduce heart disease risk factors such as high blood pressure.”

Have a creative outlet. Give yourself something exciting and therapeutic to look forward to doing every day or every week by starting or keeping up on a hobby. Anyone can be creative, so try something new to express yourself. It could be through drawing, writing, or trying anything else that might interest you. Try not to dismiss something just because you don’t think you could do it, either. You could find a new passion if you let go of your inhibitions!
